“In such a large and interconnected power system as the UES of Russia, many events and incidents occurring in different power companies can affect the state of the entire power system,” Paley said at the Energynet.CON 2020 engineering and technology conference.
“Therefore, the topic of information security is given great attention both by the companies themselves and by the regulators,” the head of the service quoted in the press release of the “System Operator”.
What kind of protection system does SO UES intend to create
The concept assumes that the tasks of the industry center for countering cyber threats will be to inform the Ministry of Energy of the Russian Federation and energy companies about new vulnerabilities and threats. As well as collecting data on the state of external infrastructure and assessing current risks for the industry.
In addition, it is envisaged to develop a methodology and standards in the field of information security of the electric power industry. It is noted that the prerequisites for the creation of such a structure were the growth in the number and types of computer attacks. As well as the increasing complexity of process control systems in the energy sector.
Currently, Rosseti, Inter RAO, Rosenergoatom, Rostelecom, Group-IB and others are participating in the project, which is being developed by the Digital Energy Association.
