Diablo 2: Resurrected was among the couple Blizzcon 2021 announcements that Diablo Immortal Gold will actually release this season. The title was called a"loyal" remaster of this 2000 dungeon crawler Diablo 2, which Blizzard Entertainment will bring to life by improving the graphics of the original name. While this might freshen the 21-year-old game, the release sorely lacks many characteristics players expect out of contemporary hack-and-slashers. Diablo 2: Resurrected launch seems to have learned from the controversial release of Warcraft 3: Reforged, but it's still another remake charging players for less content.
The Diablo 2 remaster only slightly changes the first's two-decade-old user interface. It'll lack crossplay at launch, and its cross-progression feature requires players to purchase the game twice. Despite all that, Blizzard has clearly learned from its errors by ensuring Diablo 2: Resurrected would not replace the original (such as Warcraft 3: Reforged did for Warcraft 3). However, these marginal changes put a terrible precedent for future Blizzard remasters.
Remasters and remakes have become a core part of many developer release strategies due to their relative simplicity to create compared to new IPs. Blizzard can spend a small portion of its dev power to churning out remasters of its classic matches to create a fast profit and satiate fans since they await its bigger projects, like Diablo 4 and Overwatch 2. However, Diablo 2: Resurrected treads a fine line between remaining loyal to the first and re-selling a match from 2000.
However, both Vicarious Visions' previous releases were bundles of at least two matches under one name. Diablo 2: Resurrected, on the other hand, just includes one title and the Lords of Destruction DLC that introduced two new courses to the original.
Technically, the remaster also comprises that the 2000 version of Diablo 2, since players will be able to toggle off the 3D graphics using the click of a button whenever they wish to play the first. That alternative is a fascinating showcase of the technology utilized to create Diablo 2: Resurrected. However, that attribute feels gimmicky because most gamers purchasing the remaster may wish to Cheap Diablo 2 Items play with updated images, and the original Diablo 2 will continue to be available for $10.
